Panels

The Better Utah Institute regularly hosts panels and forums in an effort to increase public dialogue on important issues. We invite public officials, policymakers, and other influential individuals to participate in these balanced and informative discussions.

With Critical Race Theory (CRT) under attack, Utahns are invited to learn and understand what CRT is and its origin. Panelists will discuss how CRT acknowledges that the legacy of slavery, segregation, and the imposition of second-class citizenship on Black Americans and other people of color continues to permeate the social fabric of this nation.

Panelists:

  • Dr. Kathleen Christy, Equity Consultant, Coach and Professional Developer
  • Dr. Jackie Thompson, Former Director of Educational Equity for Davis School District
  • Dr. Tamara Stevenson, Interim Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer for Westminster College
  • Dr. Eric Bybee, Assistant Professor in the Department of Teacher Education in the David O. McKay School of Education at BYU

Moderator: James Yapias, NAACP Salt Lake Branch Education Chair
